Alright guys all I ask is that if you read this thread please leave some kind of feedback, I need some help finding a new “used” car.
So here is the situation, I have my red 1991 Honda crx. It’s a wonderful car and is the best car I have owned. The problem with the crx is that it only has 67,000 original miles on it. I would like to keep the mileage on the car relatively low, but driving it every day in summer makes that hard. I would like to drive the car on weekends and to track events. So right now/this spring I am looking for a second car. I want something decently reliable, fun to drive, and fairly cheap.
I have around 2500$ to spend on this second car. That’s total. I would prefer to buy a 1500$ car and dump some money into it, mostly for maintenance work. Just about any cheap car will need work, and this gives me an opportunity to learn. Another point of having this car is to learn more, fixing it, basic stuff, and possibly make an attempt at painting this car.
So here are some options for cars that I think would be kinda fun and decently cheap.
FWD:
1991+ Ford Escort GT
1988-1992 Mazda MX6 GT
1992+ Mazda MX3 GS
1989+ Ford Festiva
1991+ Nissan Sentra
RWD: 1986+ Vovlo 240
1987-1989 Nissan 300ZX
1984-1988 Nissan/ Datsun 200sx
1984+ Mazda RX7
AWD: ?????
Have any of you owned or driven any of these cars? anything i should stay away from? Anyone have an opinion to any of these? Something I should add to the list? Let me know what you think.

I'll be selling a 98' ford escort zx2, in the near future, 150,000 miles ish, but we allready did all the maintenance on it, runs awsome, its quickish, 2L dohc, green.relativly cheap.

$300. Runs and drives. Who gives a shit what it is. Just drive the hell out of it. Ice events - rally events. Fun? Hell yeah - drive it like you stole it.

nice tom! you are getting me all excited. cheap car = fun time. i would love to have a car that i wouldnt care about whipping through a feild.
this is the main reason i put the festiva option down, you can get them dirt cheap and they look like they would be fun to rip around in. and they are small i love small cars.
there may be an area for a "mini" rally next year in waupaca. i am working on it no promises.

Nice pictures Dizmm. EVO = shxt spreader. LOL
Ask Kronztech about a Festiva. He used to have one. I remember one night he was doing a burnout in a parking lot which he carried out a little too long and ended up skidding out of the lot into some trees. Ha ha.
I've owned lots of beaters. They were all great. The main thing is that you pick one up cheap. That is the #1 priority.
Winter beater list:
-Chevette - Brand new family car in '78 turned over to me. I loved that little rear wheel drive car.
-Aspen Wagon - 6 in a row and no-go, but oh so much fun
-LeMans Wagon - motor blew on me and I had to walk back to work. LOL
-'71 Electra - I had three of these over the years. All green. OMG the epic burnouts those cars did. I have lots of burnout stories with that car.
-Pontiac Pakistan Safari wagon - Asked any of the old timers about the "Safari Swirl" LOL That car defied the laws of physics.
-Subaru wagon - $50 and it had a hidden driving light behind the emblem in the grill - how cool is that.
-'91 240SX - Need I say more.
Just a partial list.

The full race Shadow of death is a perfect example. We had so much fun with that car I remember laughing until it hurt. Good times.

Ron used to have a dodge spirit that he got for 75$, the car was blast. only downside was the foot press style Ebrake.
i guess i will just loook for the cheapest thing i can find.

Don't worry about the e-brake. With the right driving technique you won't need that.

1971 Buick Electra Deuce and a Quarter. $200.00
455. 4-barrel. 300+ hp. Torque - oh mama.
Trivia weekend. We were doing our usual Saturday night of burnouts. I decided it would be cool to lay a black stripe across Hwy. 10 near Mack Aye Ahh's house so that I could see it on my way to work every day.
So I torqued up the motor and laid a nice dark patch on the cement across 4 lanes of Hwy. 10. Of course there was lots of smoke involved and the Buick was pretty rusty and it let a lot of smoke into the cabin. So much it was hard to see where I was going so we drove about 4 blocks with the doors open to clear the air inside the cabin.
Right after that I look in the mirror and damn there was a cop. Drove about another block with the doors closed and the blueberries and cherries come on. He had the spotlights and take down lights on me. As he walked up to the car I rolled down my window and smoke just comes billowing out of my car. I'm trying to play innocent, but I'm sure the officer was just waiting to hear my excuse. He said - Why did you do that? Um....yeah.
He didn't see me do the burnout, but I think he heard it and then just followed the trail of smoke to the guilty Buick. Ended up with a $100 disorderly conduct fine which I passed on to my passenger and said - "file this under - Chicken Shit.

All that for only $100? wow...I paid shit load more getting caught doing 10 over.
Note to self: do burnout next time, not 10 over like everybody else.

Yeah isn't that ridiculous. My ticket carried no points either. I guess if you want to be a bad: burnouts are the action of choice. Ha ha.

I've been eyeing up the 2002 Porsche 911 4S's. All Wheel Drive - 4 seater. Very reliable and good in snow. The tires are 12" wide so if you stud them you'll have optimal grip in ice-rallys with it.
Think about it.

i will look into that, right now i have 3ish options for cars to drive when i am on winter break, i am still looking for a car for a daily in summer.
1. dads 3rd car the 98 s10- he may not let me drive it after he saw how i drive at shawano
2. grandma's backup car the 88 oldsmobile 88
3. my brother's 88-ish GTI, he dosnt have a license and he got the car for 100$ so maybe i can convince him to let me use it for awhile.

Get the big old 88 so you dont have a issue in the snow.
Hille

The GTI sounds cool, but if it cost $100 I'm sure it need a lot of work. Ugh no thanks.
I think the vehicle of choice here would be the '88 88. For starters that just sounds cool. Should be enough of a tank to take out some snowbanks with ease. Plus you and all your buddies can do some real cruising with that beast.
