Next summer i hope to be autoxing with you guys.I been to a number of events with a friend helping him and riding along in his car.My question is what class would my car run in.I went to scca rule book but i was confused on what class i would be in. I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. The only thing done is a cold air intake. No spring, shocks, sway bars, or tires. For the most part its bone stock. What else should i know?Any help would be great. Any thanks for all your help.

ok, i will take a try at this....i may be wrong. (oh wise fvscc members correct me if i am wrong)
your car would be in STS class because of the intake. the rules are pretty wierd, you cant have a intake in a stock class but you can have cat-back exhaust, tires, and shocks.
i would put the stock intake back on.so you run in a stock class.
to be honest it really doesnt matter what class you run for your first few events. you will be learning a lot. unless you are some freak of nature, you will most likely be running some slower times, but that is expected its your first time.
hope this helped a little.

I recommend staying in STS. You have to run street compound tires in that class. That will make it a lot more fair than running against "stock" cars with r-compounds.
For your first auto-x events stick with regular tires. Then after a while switch to better tires. It will help you learn how to drive faster in the long run.

I think the reason for those rule is that since they are wear item, they might as well let the driver choose replacement instead forcing them to by overpriced oem parts. I don't really like the fact that you can run R compound on stock class, but then the price of those super grippy street tires and R are about the same in some cases.
HS has a much better index than STS though, to make it more confusing for the newbie. If it were me, I would run the car as it is right now, and then decide what to do depend on how competitive I want to be. I don't think we have that many car is stock class, so you may ended up running in a one car class like me most of the time :P Oh Tom, looks like RX-8 is legal in STX for 2009, so I think that where I'm going next year.
