Sunday Feb. 15th Ice Event (ice is OK we are running)

Any ideas if there will be ice or not?

I decided not to go on the 8th. I'm glad I didn't since it was canceled that morning. I would have driven all the way up there...

Saturday at Twin Lakes at the WI/IL border there was enough ice, but 2-6" of slush and standing water in spots. I stopped after 3 runs fearing hydro locking the engine.

The weather report is not looking good for this weekend. We could run if it gets cold, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

We will be checking out our site on Winnebago and will post if it's possible to run.

Was out at the site today. Lots of trucks on the ice so there must be enough ice out there, but the landing to get on to the lake is not good. I have some pics that I will try to post.

Hoping for the best...I may swing down that way and watch. Or even pick up a ride, if anyone is offering. (No spiky tired race cars in my garage!) I did stop by 2 weeks ago, on the Sunday after your night event and just drove around the track to see what it looked like. Ice looked great, awesome track, and looks like you all had a great time!!

Ice is in great shape. They opened up the far end of the landing so getting onto the ice should be no problem.

With all the snow melting here in Milwaukee, I almost took the Blizzaks off the Audi! One more time on Lake Winnebago sounds GREAT!:) See you all on the ice.

Yes. Ken reported that the landing should not be a problem. I will be sporting all season tires.

I'll be there again, hopefully running if the conditions are good. I'm bringing my canon point and shoot as well and plan on taking a bunch of pics this time. I just have to remember to empty out all the change in my car or it will be all over the place tomorrow!

Do you guys measure the thickness throughout the course? I've heard there can be random thin spots from underwater currents?

The bay we run in is not an area with underwater currents. The ice is over 20 inches thick so even if there was a thin spot of say 15" it would not be a problem.

Yes someone checked the ice today. Two seperate people and they both came to the same conclusion as stated earlier in the thread.

We won't be getting to our location until 8:30am at the earliest. I can still call Chicago people, but you will almost be there by that time.

I would like to repeat Tom's request from a while back. There were a set of keys lost and they are very important. Please contact myself or Tom if you locate them, or even if you saw them an know approximately where they were.

so back to the drawing board, I had the front two tires from the first heat have the screws back out of them, so now I think I may experiment with rivets, but with only studs on the front (after rotating tires) I had the most fun ever in a car, does anyone have any pics of that??? I think the missing peter pic may have been me because of how often I was off in the second heat lol

BTW, the reason the keys were a big deal.....

There was a wedding band on the key ring. *For safe keeping

Ironically this isn't the first time I have been looking for wedding band after a race. A guy in Milwaukee was in the process of spinning his WRX and in the frantic effort to (unsuccessfully) save it he caught his ring on the wheel. The ring was pulled off his finger and flew out the window. Mid-spin no less...

After the event we combed the parking lot with 6 or so people and located it. It had been driven over and pushed to the outside of the corner. But he was still happy to find it.

And that little boy was me... (actually it wasn't but I was in the search crew).
