Alright, going coil-overs for the evo, trying to decide what spring rates i should order from HyperCoil.

This is the stock spring rates:
Stock(USDM):..........Front: 180lbs(3.2k)........Rear:225lbs(4.0k)

Based on stock, I'd want to keep somewhat near the same ratio, however many aftermarket companies, are setup like such:

...................................Front.......... ........Rear.............drop
APEXI PRO:..............560lbs(10.K).....560lbs(10.K)... .Adjustable
CUSCO Zero 1:........392lbs(7.0K).....280lbs(5.0k)....Adjusta ble
CUSCO Zero 2:........392lbs(7.0K).....280lbs(5.0k)....Adjusta ble
CUSCO Zero 2R:......392lbs(7.0K).....280lbs(5.0k)....Adjustab le
HKS Hypermax II:....392lbs(7.0k).....336lbs(6.0K)....Adjustable
HKS Hypermax RS....336lbs(6.0K).....280lbs(5.0k)....Adjustable
HKS Kansai Tarmac:.448lbs(8.0K).....448lbs(8.0K)....Adjustabl e
HKS Kansai Track:....896lbs(16.K).....784lbs(14.K)....Adjusta ble
HKS Performer:........392lbs(7.0k).....336lbs(6.0k)... .Adjustable
HKS PRO:.................672lbs(12.K).....672lbs(12.K) ....Adjustable
JIC FLT A2:...............560lbs(10.K).....504lbs(9.0K)... Adjustable
OHLINS R/T:.............250lbs(4.4k).....310lbs(5.5k)....Ad justable
Ralliart:....................336lbs(6.0K).....336l bs(6.0K)....Adjustable
Tein Basic:...............392lbs(7.0k).....336lbs(6.0K) ....Adjustable
Tein Flex:.................672lbs(12.K).....560lbs(10.K ).....Adjustable
Tein SS:...................392lbs(7.0k).....336lbs(6.0k )....Adjustable
Tein RA:...................672lbs(12.K).....504lbs(9,0K )....Adjustable

I would think you'd want a higher rate in the rear than the front like you said but darn near all of those aftermarket ones are higher rate in the front. It looks like the Ohlins are the best choice with that in mind but they look kinda low. I suppose you could go with a lower rear verses front if you ran a bigger rear sway bar but I think the stock rear sway bar is plenty big. What tires do you plan on running? That might make a difference in spring choice. Some of the National BSP and SM guys are running around 900lb front 1200lb rear. Thats probably too much for a normal bumpy autocross site.

I am running r-compounds. i do plan on doing both high speed and auto-x events so i rather not go too stiff. I'd rather go stiffer sway bars than stiffer spring rates. its kinda throwing my for a loop seeing how all those aftermarket stuff is setup.

mmmm....

If you have really grippy tires like Hoosiers I think stiff springs are the way to go. Even with big sway bars it seems like soft sprung cars take forever to settle after a big weight transfer. I am a huge fan of soft springs big sway bars for a car that sees any street time. Stiff springs makes a lot of cars undriveable on the street for me.

yes, that would be true as there is nothing to dampen the sway bar accept the shocks which may not be enough. i may just order a few different spring rates and do some T&T with them.

Stock.

stock + race rubber = slow Tom Hille Time.

stiffer springs + race rubber = Me beating Tom Time.

On our STU Evo, we're running 700 pound front, 800 rear with Zzyzx coilovers. It's competitive, and still rides pretty good. We have a large front bar too, your going to want that and the springs.

How much of a difference should he look into if he's planning on running R-compounds? STU is limited to street tires, so his set-up might include some differences.

I have no idea as I just run what I brought, and I'm running 12kg fronts, 10kg backs on my lil 240sx (~2600lbs), and I'll be running them whether it's street tires or R-compounds.

The JIC FLT A2's have had awesome reviews, I will probably go with something close to that setup. I am throwing my car on the corner-weighting scales tonight, that should add some more data to better pick out spring rates.
