We will be running as long as there is safe ice. The only change would be some Saturday night event thrown in there.
Where were you last night?
dpRacingDan

Yeah wanted to go last night its about a 3 hour haul from my house in Chicago-land and am waiting for a daytime event. If I still had my RS, I might have gone thanks to its kick-ass fog lights. This new subis halogens and no fogs suck!
PS- Dont think Im a poser for driving a fo-sti- I JUST bought this car from Mark (blue "Rally car") the way it is- I just cant afford a real STI (yet) but wanted another white subi!
now, I need softer springs! Anybody got any stock STI springs?
See you guys SUNDAY!

What time do you guys usually finish up on a Sunday? I'd like to join you guys but I'll be driving from Chicago and my schedule's a bit tight.
Also, what's the safety inspection like? Do I need to take my subs/amp out of the trunk (kind of a pain)? I usually take them out in the summer for autox and put them back in for the winter.
And I saw something about FVSCC radio, i'm assuming that means you're running a FM modulator or something... is this needed cause my radio's currently broken (and wouldn't work without the subs and amp either)
Hille

Depends on the turnout, but we usually get done by 3pm. We can also get you into heats 1 and 3 if you need to bug out early.
Tech inspection: Make sure the battery is secured. If the sub box is bolted down that is fine.
Yes we have a radio station that we broadcast on. It helps a lot if your car has a radio, but it is not required.

this probably isn't a good idea to be honest...if they came out for autox at shawano or WIR, that would be one thing...but ice racing...we get media coverage, people start asking questions...look what happened with the rattlers stadium (granted, not because of media coverage, but still).
either way, we can't get kicked off of a real race track, but we could get kicked off the ice.
I mean, I'm not trying to kill your enthusiasm, but you prolly should have checked with the board first (meetings on the 1st tuesday of every month).

Publicity is VERY bad for what we do on the lake.
Especially any kind of story related to safety, considering we have no control of our course, no method to keep the general public off of it, and we make no attempt to do so through bannering or signage.
These kinds of things are killing the last real motorsports in the US.
There's always someone looking to shit all over someone else's parade. Its only a matter of time before someone buys one of the houses on Cowling Bay Rd. and gets bent out of shape when January comes around and calls the police or county board about "hooligans in soobaroos messing up MY ice on MY lake"
Then we're done.
Heres to hoping against a slow news day.

Unfortunately you don't know what all the people in the houses in the bay or the other lake users think of us.
All it takes is one person to start being vocal about how we are disturbing their lake living or use of the lake and others that may currently be on the fence will jump in.
Unless the vast majority think what we are doing is a good thing and are willing to back us up if it comes to a fight, I think life could be made very difficult for us if just one person decides they want to make a stink about it.
While we may be on public property and can in theory we can do what we want. So can everyone else. We cannot stop anyone from parking trucks or ice shanties on our course. We can't stop them from drilling big old holes in our course. If we take the position that it is public property and we are free to race on that spot, we have to accept that others are free to be douche bags on that spot.
If the police do decide to get involved, as noted, they can do whatever they want. We may be able to fight them, but I wouldn't expect that to be resolved before the end of the season. Then if we won the fight we can expect the cops to sit at the landing and pick off every non-legal car that drives off the ice and onto the road.
This is all a really long way of saying I don't think we want to attract more attention to ourselves than necessary.

All Ice Rally-X trials are only as dangerous as YOU the driver make them to be.
SLOW down if not sure of your abilities, your car abilities, track abilities and or other driver's abilities.
Be safe! See you all on the ice.

NOTE: ALL CARS MUST NOT ENGAGE IN ANY SORT OF ICE RACING "PRACTICE" OR SIMILAR DRIVING MANEUVERS ANYWHERE EXCEPT ON THE COURSE OR ON THE PRACTICE COURSE!! If you ask me, night events are safer, less people are out on the ice, and any other vehicles that are should have headlights on. Out of respect for residents on the lake, I think we should require mufflers for night events (I can't believe I said that!). Even though none of our cars are louder than any snowmobile, we're more visible since we're out there running constantly for 4 - 5 hours instead of just passing by.
Those of us with non-DOT compliant HID conversions should consider bringing standard bulbs to swap in to and from events. Its easy to get dinged on. Hell, I try to avoid night practice with the rally car to keep from being accused of shining deer with the light pod. As far as I know its never happened, but its an easy conclusion to jump to, but its a better excuse than "Oh I've been blasting down this gravel road repeatedly at 95, officer."
Otherwise I'm not in favor of doing anything differently to control the course. Signs and banner tape attract people, before you know it we have a problem where we didn't before.

I'll be in Misery. I mean Missouri.
Saturday events are great for some people, but a lot of people have to work on that day. My idea was to hold day runs in the afternoon for the non-Saturday workers and then the working crowd could join in for the night runs after they finished work.
It would have been an experiment. Oh well. Sunday it is.
