With 6 days to go, the car is painted and just about ready to go. We've been having issues getting the carbs to behave, so we won't be at the lapping day tomorrow.

So we see the 510 in Houghton on a trailer Friday morning. We were working stage 1 in the gravel pit. Sarge was perched on top of a hill taking video anxiously awaiting the 510 to go by.

Much to our dismay it never went by. What happened?

I was roaming through the woods looking to snap off pictures of you, too. Update?

Snapped the timing chain on Wednesday night, so we had to withdraw from the rally.

But it was on a trailer up there on Friday? After it was already broken? Confused.

We brought the car up to get the initial rollcage inspection done, this way our car will be grandfathered into any rule changes over the off-season.

So I was wondering, where did you have the car blasted after you completed fabrication work?

timing chain, that's nothing. just go to the toy store, get a jump rope, wrap it in panty hose, wrap it twice around the gears, hit it with some Aquanet, then you'll be ready to go!!

That's too bad you didn't run, I was really looking forward to that car, the 510 is one of my all-time favorite cars, up there with the Corolla GTS (correct wheel drive, of course) and the Merkur XR4ti.

Are you going to be running Sno-drift or the like over the winter at all?

We're planning to run the car at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in February. But we're all broke, and rally is imploding under economic pressure. I'm starting a new job in December though, so hopefully I'll have more time to go ice racing this winter anyway.

Did you guys get the car blasted locally?

What kind of media, cost.. etc?

We had the shell blasted at Quality Sandblasting in Green Bay, They do all kind's of blasting an painting. We just had them use sand. I think it cost around $175-200 but am not too sure. It was well worth the cost, made everything much nicer.

Yea, I had mine blasted at Emrich MFG. in Fon Du Lac.

They used amber sand, and have an outside blaster. Most of their business is trailers, so nothing high tech.

The kid who did the blasting missed quite a bit of stuff. I even built a trunnion for them to use to blast it on. They missed a bunch of small areas, but it was a lot easier to work on it without having to worry about cleaning the paint off.

When I finish welding the cage and frame and do all the carbon body work I want to have it blasted again, and then get a nice layer of primer on the whole thing.

That day is still pretty far away.

Edit; It was 250$ to have the chassis blasted. + 175 for the rest of the doors, hood, suspension parts, etc.
