Default Gas Gauge not working

My girlfriend drives an 04 Cavalier with just under 70k on the clock and her gas gauge just stopped working about a year or so ago. All other gauges work fine she has just used the gas light to tell when she's low. Lately though I have been driving her car for work cause it gets better mileage than my own, any way it's kind of annoying not knowing how much gas we have left. I did some searching myself but all I could find was info on the older models having the same problem, only solution I could find for the old ones was replace the cluster. Anyone know how to fix this or whats causing the problem?

TL;DR
Gas gauge doesn't work, need help finding solution.

Does work if u shake the car around? GM had an issue with the contacts on the level sensor.the fix is replace the pump and sender assembly.
